Updated 5:37 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2012
KENDALL, N.Y. (AP) — At least 32 gravestones have been toppled and in some cases, broken into pieces, at a rural cemetery in western New York.
Orleans County sheriff's deputies say some of the damaged monuments inside Beechwood Cemetery mark graves of people buried in the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Vandalism was first discovered on Oct. 12, when an officer discovered damage to the former cemetery chapel. Deputies were called back Sunday after the cemetery caretaker discovered the toppled gravestones.
As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made.
